David and Jan Blittersdorf of Charlotte, Vermont (near Burlington) have a 10 kW
Bergey wind turbine and a 1.4 kW solar array installed at their rural home to
reduce their utility bills. The two systems are sized to virtually
eliminate their consumption of power from the local utility company, Green
Mountain Power. The Blittersdorf's own and operate NRG Systems, the preeminent
supplier of wind resource data logging equipment, so they are quite familiar
with wind energy. In 1998 they installed a 1.5 kW Bergey turbine and in
1999 they upgraded to a 10 kW Bergey wind turbine. Two of the
Blitterdorf's neighbors have now applied for building permits to install there
own Bergey wind generators. Mr. Blitterdorf is also working with the State of
Vermont to make it easier and less expensive to install small wind systems.
