Wind & Solar Hybrid System Value Package

1.2 kW Hybrid.System Package
Performance:  80 - 200 AC Kilowatt-hours (kWh's) per month (depending on wind and solar resources)

Recommended for:

Typical off-grid homes, schools, clinics, etc.

Systems without back-up engine generators

Retrofit to existing diesel-only power system to provide up to 24-hour/day power availability

Wind Class 2 or higher

Note:  This hybrid system provides more consistent year-round renewable energy production.  These systems are modular and can be expanded easily.

Hybrid wind & solar systems provide more consistent year-round performance and reduce the need for back-up generation.  We highly recommend wind and solar hybrids for smaller systems.

We recommend this package for homes, schools, clinics and other smaller off-grid applications.  These systems are also easily retrofitted to existing diesel-only systems in order to save fuel and provide up to 24-hour power.

The solar modules are Photowatt 24 VDC, 90 W modules designed to mount directly to the wind turbine tower.  No separate mounting structure is required.  Two modules are used to provide 180 W of solar capacity.  The modules can be placed well above the ground for security or to solve a shading problem.  The XL.1's PowerCenter provides voltage regulation and can handle up to 600 W of solar.

The BWC Hybrid.System stores excess energy in batteries for use during low wind periods. It can also charge the batteries from a back-up generator.  With a manually controlled back-up generator the Hybrid.System can provide up to 24-hour/day power.

The Tubular Tilt-up tower can be installed without concrete and they tilt-up after all the assembly work is done on the ground. The 60 ft. tower in this package is the most common height used for the XL.1 turbine.  For sites with trees, taller towers are recommended.  These tower are available in height up to 100 ft.

The batteries are Trojan T-105's, a workhorse of the home power industry and an excellent value.  A total of eight individual batteries are connected in two parallel strings of four batteries in series (24 VDC nominal).  This battery bank will supply up to several days of power without wind energy input.  The Magnum Energy MM1524AE modified-sine-wave inverter provides 120 VAC (or 230 V, 50 Hz)  and includes battery-charging and transfer relay functions.  A back-up engine generator can be easily integrated, but the automatic start function is an extra-cost option for the inverter (inquire).

In addition to the equipment costs given below, a complete installation will typically include the following costs:  shipping, sales tax, permit costs, foundation and anchoring (some soil types), wire run, turbine and tower erection, battery racks or vault, electrical hook-up, and inspection fees.  Some users also incorporate a back-up gas, propane, or diesel generator into the system for extended periods of low wind speed. Your dealer or Bergey WindPower can assist you in budgeting these additional costs.  For budgeting purposes, these costs typically range from $2,000 (customer installed, no sales tax, etc) to $8,000 (Certified Dealer, sales tax, etc).
